The Art of Living in Advent - Blank Graphic - IG Post.jpg

Be adventish!

The art of living in the season of Advent takes you on a four-week apprenticeship during which you will learn to become someone who knows how to wait joyfully for Christ, by yourself or with others, in everyday places and times.

My story, like my book, starts in Provence, with the folk tradition of celebrating Jesus' nativity as if he was born in the lavender hills of 19th century southern France. These miniature manger scenes invite us to imagine ourselves, like the little clay figures in the French crèche, the santons, making ready for the arrival of Jesus in our own terroir and neighborhoods, or really, anywhere we happen to be. The art of living in Advent is all about learning how to welcome Jesus into our lives anywhere, anytime.

At the heart of this manger scene is a wondrous exchange: like these little saints, we – everyday saints – welcome Jesus into our places, mangers or not, while we joyfully await Jesus to welcome us into his place, the kingdom of God.

The art of living in Advent is the art of joyfully watching and waiting for Christ to come, first at Christmas,

then in all the seasons of our lives.
