Advent:
The art of watchful waiting

Mary's crèche_edited.jpg

The Art of Living in Season begins now, at the Provençal manger, where attentive crèche keepers set the stage. They prepare the way of the Lord by re-staging Christmas in their own local place, in a spirit of quiet reflection. The crèche and its santons take center stage.

Keeping watch for the Christ child with the little saints fosters the practice of watchful waiting in our own place. Everyday saints are at their posts. But the baby Jesus is not there: this is not yet his time. We proceed in season.

The Art of Living in Advent, also illustrated with botanical subjects and santons, digs deeper into the Advent customs of Provence. It provides more historical background, more cultural and personal anecdotes, more santons examples and suggests more practical ways in which we might use this tradition to enrich our own Advent walk wherever we are.
Step into this imaginative way of practicing joyful Christian discipleship!
