Spring-cleaning season coincides with the cosmic house-cleansing that Christ did for us through his cross and resurrection. Christ renews in a way that no inner cleaning or self-pruning could achieve, hence our great joy at being made new. Some think us fools because of such joy, but such scorn does not hinder everyday saints from proclaiming God’s grace. The “fool” santon comes to Christ on Christmas night with hands raised in excitement. Could it be that his joyfulness is not just about the incarnation (Christmas), but also the resurrection (Easter)?
